History
This industrial space is housed in the Carolina Trust Building, a four-story Classical Revival building that was originally constructed in 1902. Originally home to a string of banks and professionals, the Carolina Trust Building was purchased by McLellan’s dime store in the late 1920s. The store had a huge retail presence in Raleigh’s business district for decades. The first floor contained the main retail areas and the luncheonette, and the upper floors served as stock rooms. The Stockroom at 230 continues the building’s strong tradition of active community uses that has for so long been a part of the Carolina Trust Building.
